AboutWhen We’re Under the Same Roof

In this children’s book on immigration, a Vietnamese American girl looks forward to the special day when “see you again soon” is finally here, and she gets to return to her family in Vietnam for a visit!

“This speaks to the many directions in which love flows, across oceans and through time.”

—Kao Kalia Yang, award-winning
author of The Rock in My Throat

While there are stories in children’s literature that focus on the challenges of leaving home, When We’re Under the Same Roof tells a different story—one about returning.

Illustration, Design, and Storytelling

A person is using a stylus to draw or write on a colorful, vibrant art piece on a tablet or touchscreen device. The art features a woman surrounded by fiery, swirling, and abstract elements with the text "BÌNH NGÔ" at the bottom and the numbers "20" and "26" at the top left corner.

I specialize in illustration and design work that tells a story, usually with elements rooted in folk fairy tales and cultural identity.

An example of such a project was the Forecast Public Art Utility Boxes Redesign, in which I designed and illustrated four unique artworks celebrating Southeast Asian culture that serve as utility box wraps in downtown St. Paul.
